Receive Understanding Before Recommending
Listen carefully. Respect every voice. Understand the people, context, and needs before proposing a solution.
Principle: Understand before recommending.
The Raire Method
The Raire Method is a people-centered approach to understanding what matters, finding the deeper opportunity, creating clarity, turning ideas into useful solutions, and leaving people and organizations stronger.

RAIRE represents Receive, Assess, Illuminate, Realize, and Equip.
Over the years, I have learned that the first request is not always the real problem. Sometimes the challenge is unclear communication. Sometimes people are working from different understandings of the same vision. Sometimes the solution being requested will not actually solve what is getting in the way.
The Raire Method grew out of the way I naturally approach those situations: receive the people and context with care, assess what may be beneath the initial request, illuminate what matters, realize the direction through useful work, and equip people to carry the work forward.
Five Stages
The stages help me understand what is needed before deciding what should be created.
Listen carefully. Respect every voice. Understand the people, context, and needs before proposing a solution.
Principle: Understand before recommending.
Discern the deeper challenge, opportunity, constraints, and implications.
Principle: Find the deeper challenge or opportunity.
Clarify the vision, make complexity understandable, and establish shared direction.
Principle: Create shared understanding.
Create the communication, experience, system, campaign, or solution that brings the idea into practice.
Principle: Turn direction into useful solutions.
Strengthen trust, capability, consistency, and confidence so the work can continue beyond the engagement.
Principle: Leave people and organizations stronger.

Outcome
The goal of The Raire Method is not to follow five steps for the sake of a process. It is to make sure we understand the right problem, create useful solutions, and leave people and organizations stronger because of the work.
The work may change. The principle does not: receive with care, assess honestly, illuminate what matters, realize the direction, and equip people to move forward.
